Radhanagri Wildlife Sanctuary
Radhanagri Wildlife Sanctuary, also known as Dajipur Sanctuary, is one of the oldest and most scenic protected areas in Maharashtra. Nestled in the Sahyadri ranges of the Western Ghats, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its rich biodiversity and lush evergreen forests. Spread over over 350 sq km, this sanctuary is a true paradise for wildlife lovers and nature photographers.
The sanctuary is home to the Indian Bison (Gaur) — its flagship species — along with leopards, barking deer, sambar, wild boars, and a variety of small mammals. The dense canopy shelters over 260 species of birds, 66 species of butterflies, and numerous rare amphibians and reptiles, including many species endemic to the Western Ghats.
What makes Radhanagri truly special is its peaceful environment, unspoiled landscapes, and the chance to see wildlife in their natural, undisturbed habitat. Whether it's the rhythmic sound of cicadas, the croak of a bush frog, or the sudden flutter of a butterfly, every moment here connects you deeply with nature. The sanctuary also supports seasonal streams, grasslands, and sacred groves, adding to its ecological importance.
For travelers and researchers alike, Radhanagri Wildlife Sanctuary is not just a forest — it's a living classroom of biodiversity, heritage, and natural beauty.
