The Hidden Serpents of Radhanagri

Radhanagri Wildlife Sanctuary is full of surprises. While many come here for the bison, birds, and butterflies, the forest also hides a fascinating world of snakes that play a crucial role in maintaining the ecological balance of this region.

These snakes, though often feared, are shy and usually stay away from humans. They help control the population of rodents and other small animals, keeping the food chain in balance. Radhanagri is home to both venomous and non-venomous species, each with its own importance.

Some commonly seen snakes in this region include the Spectacled Cobra, the Indian Rat Snake, the Russell’s Viper, and the Green Vine Snake. Each of them has unique patterns and behavior, and spotting one in the wild is a thrilling experience for wildlife lovers.

Snakes are mostly active during the early mornings or just after sunset. During the monsoon, they are often seen crossing forest paths or hiding under leaves. While they are misunderstood by many, snakes are not aggressive unless provoked.

Exploring the forests of Radhanagri with awareness and respect gives you a deeper appreciation of how every creature, even the most feared ones, has a role to play in nature’s grand design.
